Information

The Wingham Flax hackles were developed with the assistance of Shrewsbury Flax mill spinners group and with observation of historic sets of hackles in Switzerland.

Supplied as individual hackles, please select the size required:

Coarse Hackle
6 mm diameter ground taper point steel tines
Wooden base plate 2 cm thick area 34 cm x 14 cm, pre-drilled for screwing down or can be clamped.
Tine working area 13 cm x 10 cm tines height 12.5 cm

Medium Hackle
3 mm diameter steel tines, double angle taper ground points for ease of entry of the fibre.
Wooden base plate 2 cm thick 31 cm x 13 cm, pre-drilled for screwing down or can be clamped.
Tine working area 11 cm x 9cm tines height 8 cm

Fine Hackle
3 mm diameter steel tines, double angle taper ground points for ease of entry of fibre
Wooden base plate 2 cm thick 27 cm x 10 cm, pre -drilled for screwing down or can be clamped.
Tine working area 11 cm x 8 cm tines 5.4 cm high

Care of Combs and Hackles.

After use make sure the combs are dry. If they are not to be used for a while give them a spray with WD40 or similar product. Hold them up with tines pointing down and spray. This allows any excess spray to run off. Store in a dry place. Garden sheds are not good places for hackles carders or combs.

Pre-Orders

The Wingham range of wool combs and hackles have become increasingly popular and we're working flat out to try and keep up with demand. If the set you're looking at is showing as out of stock then we're now able to offer a pre-ordering service. This allows you to place your order and have a set reserved in the next batch to come in. We would then dispatch them as soon as available.

In order to pre-order you would need to give the office a call. This allows our staff to talk through the ordering process, give any updates on production dates and process your payment.
Full payment is required when pre-ordering. Once paid you will receive an emailed order receipt and have a set reserved in the next batch to be available. Pre-orders always have priority and are shipped before we make any remaining sets available for general sale.
If for any reason you decide to cancel your order we're always able to issue a full refund before dispatch. If your set has been dispatched then our standard refund policy applies.
