The crafty team at Wingham have come up with a series of half and full day beginner classes to share our love and enthusiasm for all things woolly (and silky and cashmerey and......... well, you get the picture). The classes are designed to introduce the basics of fibre preparation, spinning, weaving and felt making. All materials, equipment and notes are provided and, of course, you can keep what you make.
Introduction to Spinning on a Wheel - Full Day
Give Rumplestiltskin a run for his money by learning how to use a spinning wheel. We can’t promise that you’ll be turning straw into gold but we can show you how to make beautifully soft yarns from our gigantic range of wools. You will be shown the common features of all spinning wheels and will have a chance to try different styles of wheel from the Ashford and Kromski range. The aim is to get spinning and to produce a plyed yarn by the end of the day.
You are welcome to bring any washed and prepared fibre you have at home (sorry, no greasy fleeces this time) to have a go with. If you have a wheel but don’t know what to do with it you are welcome to bring that too, but, we often see wheels that have been ‘gifted’ in less than ideal shape. If this is the case we will explain what needs doing to bring your wheel up to scratch and will provide one of our wheels for the class.
Class size is small with a maximum of 4 participants.

Important Information - Please read before booking
You will receive confirmation of your booking by email, and a reminder 1 week prior to the class. If you do not receive any confirmation please get in touch by calling the office on 01226 742926 as it means there is a problem with your contact details and we cannot reach you.
Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. If you want to bring your young person please consider whether they will enjoy a single focus craft session aimed at adults. No under 14’s permitted due to machinery in operation.
Please wear flat(ish) closed toed shoes/boots to the class to reduce the risk of any injury when walking around machinery. In the winter months we recommend some warm layers, however the classroom is heated.
If you cannot attend the class you can transfer the booking to a friend at no cost at any point. Cancellation up to two weeks prior to the start of a class will incur a £10 administration fee.
Cancellation within two weeks of the class is non-refundable unless the place can be filled (we will try!), however the £10 administration fee still applies.
If the class is cancelled by Wingham Wool Work you will be informed by email and telephone. Please make sure you provide your phone number so we can reach you. The full fee will be refunded if we are unable to go ahead. We will not cancel if the class is not fully subscribed - you will get a more personalised service! The only reasons we will cancel are due to ill health or dangerous travel conditions. Stand-by tutors are available therefore it is unlikely that a class will be cancelled last minute.
