Wheel Servicing
You can bring your Ashford wheel to Wentworth for a free service. We will check the wheel over and make sure all the parts are running well. If needed we will fit new parts. We only charge for parts used, no additional labour costs. Please contact us to arrange a time. We can have a look at other makes of wheel but cannot guarantee we can offer a full service.

Stock levels
We have been selling Ashford wheels for 30 years and have a thorough understanding of them. We carry stocks of all the products so that they are available" off the shelf". There are the infrequent times when we have been busy and demand overtakes supply so please check before coming to collect a wheel or other equipment.

Choosing a wheel
If you search the web you will no doubt come across thousands of words of discussion on which is the best wheel. We have chosen to sell the Ashford and Kromski ranges for the simple reason that they do the job, cost a reasonable amount and have good spares support from the makers. There are many other makes available which work equally well.
The technical differences of wheels is also well documented. Decide in what you want to spin, that is thickness and type of fibres. If you want to go thick either select a large oriface or the ability to fit a larger flyer. If you you are staying with "normal" thickness's yarns the standard set up will probably be OK. Don't get too tied up with technicalities that you will never use. We encourage potential buyers to come, inspect and try out wheels. We have them set up ready to try out at Wentworth.

If you are planning to visit Wentworth to purchase and get advice about wheels and equipment please telephone us first. We have all the items in stock and can sell them to you but a few times a year we do not have anyone who can demonstrate as they are all out at workshops. It does not happen often but we do not want you disappointed that there is no one here to demonstrate.

Ashford Joy

Ready to go - Portable - 4 ratios - Assembled and lacquered - Carry bag accessory This compact wheel is light weight (5kg/11lb) and portable with folding treadle, built-in lazy kate and carry handle. Charka

Quill spindle spinning - High ratio 80:1 - Accelerated head - Very portable - Spin from a point Compact and light weight it is a great traveling wheel. The accelerated countershaft gives a very high ratio of 80:1 ideal for spinning fine short fibres such as cotton, silk, angora or fine wool. When driving the spindle directly the ratio is 16:1 ideal for spinning medium length fibres. The 23cm (9ins) wheel can be assembled with the crank handle on either the left or right hand side. It is light and smooth to turn as the wheel, spindle and countershaft all rotate on ball bearings. The spindle is tapered, made from 4mm (5/32in) stainless steel and holds a large amount of spun singles. It can also be used as a bobbin winder.
