10 Distillery Side
Elsecar
S74 8HN
The Cottage is a middle terrace property.
There are two bedrooms a single and a twin.
The Distillery Side area is a group of cottages which are around 200 years old and formed part of the Elsecar New Colliery site. It was new in 1804. The distillery reference is to the fact that around 1814 there was a tar distillery there for about 4 years. All has of course long gone and the houses were renovated in the mid 1980's. The only nearby evidence of the mine is the Newcomen Engine House. Lots of details on the Industrial Heritage of the area can be found at Elsecar Heritage Centre.
A variation on self catering in that we provide food for breakfast. Cereals, tea and coffee are provided. If you intend to self cater for evening meals we provide all the bits and pieces, salt and pepper, mustards sauces etc for cooking. We find it annoying to stay in places with bare cupboards where you have to take every item so we leave available all the items we use when we stay there ourselves.
