Carders and Card Cloth
Over the past 30 years we have developed our own design of flat backed carders. Some time ago our manufacturer reorganised and decided to stop making card cloth so we took over. Today we produce our own card cloth using an industrial machine, acquired from just over the border in West Yorkshire. We are now the last maker of handcarders in Yorkshire. This allows us to define exactly what settings we need. If you have specific needs then feel free to get in touch and discuss your requirements

Carders Specification
With a familiar design and finish there are no carders better for price or quality. We believe a carder need only be a simple handle and straight working face: fancy designs only add to the cost and poor materials simply dont last.
We have designed our carders to be a happy medium. A straightforward layout means that you are paying for the quality of the materials rather than the cost of production. Being able to produce our own card cloth in-house means we can create the exact amount needed and of consistant quality. Together these create what we believe are the finest carders available
* Made from birch ply, as opposed to solid wood,to prevent splitting over time
* Chunky turned handle to fit the hand, angled to keep finger away from the working surface
* Covered in 72 point or 108 point card cloth with 3 ply rubber back for durability
* Lacquered finish to permanently seal the woodwork, with all corners rounded off
* 350gms / 22cm x 12cm each
Please note the card cloth wire has a light coating of oil to preseve the wire and lubricate it during manufacture. This is normally so light that it is not noticable. Sometimes the application has been a liitle more and it can show on the wool. We suggest that you initially use the carders with some "waste" wool just to make certain the wire is cleaned off. The wire is plated so that they will not rust if kept in a dry place.

Drum Carder
There are many makes of carder produced around the world with many of them coming from the USA. We only sell the Ashford as we feel it offers the best value for money and does the job it is intended for.
Now that the packer brush is available as an add on to the standard carder it is even more flexible to use. Great fun to make batts for wild spinning, that putting all sorts of fibres, bits of yarn etc on the carder to make a daft batt. It makes the production of "art yarns" very easy.
