Card Cloth - Tin plate or stainless wire
Over the past 30 years we have developed our own design of flat backed carders. Some time ago our manufacturer reorganised and decided to stop making card cloth so we took over. Today we produce our own card cloth using an industrial machine, acquired from just over the border in West Yorkshire. We are now the last maker of handcarders in Yorkshire. This allows us to define exactly what settings we need. If you have specific needs then feel free to get in touch and discuss your requirements
We are now offering the option of stainless steel wire on our finished hand carders. This has the advantage of being the perfect material for the carder as it will never show any signs of deteriation in normal usage and will stay clean and shiny. It is a fact that with lack of care the usual tin plated wire can show signs of ageing. The use of stainless steel wire removes this problem.
As this is a more expensive material, about 4 times the cost of tin plate, we are restricting its use to our finished carders.
We will continue to supply the standard tinplate finished wire for our replacement card cloths and for drum card cloth. .

Card cloth production is a slow and tempremental process.
We try and keep stocks of drum card cloth but at busy times we may have delays as the machinery only has one speed, slow. Please be patient and if we anticiapte a delay of more than 14 days we will try and contact you.

We sell quite a lot of the drum card cloth to home builders of machines, not too difficult a task if you have the tools.
Specification
Produced in continous length.
Total width of backing 215mm (8 3/8 ") Wire width 180mm (7") Side margin of rubber 16mm. This can be trimmed back easily to a 10mm margin or less.
Tin plated steel wire
Sold in sheets of any length. A normal drum carder would cost around £65-£80 to re-cover. We will quote for any length required. The standard wire is set at 72 point per square inch. Fine wire is 108 point. We can also produce a 48 point wire setting.
Card cloth is normally fixed to the drum with staples or tacks along the edge only. A jointing strip of metal or wood is used where the ends meet. This acts as a partition line when removing the batt of fibres.
To calculate the amount required multiply the drum diameter by 3.142 .
We always add a little extra free of charge for the joint.
